My Students

I think the most influential aspects of my career are firstly, that I want all my students, specifically my girls, to be able to see themselves in STEM. It is important they capitalize on their passions, and firmly believe that there is space for females in STEM. Teacher Joy is seeing my first block look through a microscope for the first time, or watching as the 5th graders dig into soil and experience biology first-hand.Additionally, science at its core is curiosity. It is so important that I aim to instill an inquisitiveness in my students that allows them to be competent sense-makers and catalysts of change in their world.

My Project

As in all my motivation for attending professional development sessions, I intend on absorbing the information in hopes of becoming a better educator for my scholars. I know that I can only advocate for my students if I continuously and humbly learn from others. Specifically, I want to learn how to integrate more computer engineering opportunities for my children. Next year, I've partnered with KIPP Foundation to bring Leggo's First Robotics to my school. I would appreciate the opportunity to learn about the success of others who have created similar robotics teams in their school. It is my goal to create such spaces, I’ve forwardly deemed these STEM Clubs (Students That Explore More). I believe attending the NSTA Conference could be the next step closer to my goal’s fruition
