STEM Design and Inquiry: A Project That MATTERs

My students need the Inquires in Science: Interpreting the Periodic Table Kit, as well as the refill kits. We also need the Carolina STEM Challenge: Separation of a Mixture Kit.

My Students

"Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is to not stop questioning." - Albert Einstein This quote captures the essence of what I want my students to take away from my class. I want them to always question the world around them and strive to learn new things.

I teach an energetic group of eighth graders who love learning.

They have an innate curiosity for obtaining information about the world around them and I want to encourage them to continue their love of learning by exposing them to new and exciting hands-on experiences in science. We have over 900 students in our middle school and funding for school supplies for all of these students is difficult. My students deserve the best that I can offer them.

My Project

Matter and the Periodic Table tend to be a very abstract concept for 8th graders. Having these STEM and Inquiry kits will not only allow me to bring the world of Matter to my students through hands-on, relevant learning, but these kits will also allow me to seamlessly incorporate STEM principles into my classroom.

The Inquiries in Science: Interpreting the Periodic Table Kit will introduce students to the basic components of the periodic table and trends found within it.

Students will be able to conduct various experiments that will give them real-life evidence of the trends in the periodic table.

The Carolina STEM Challenge®: Separation of a Mixture Kit will allow my students to use planning skills, logic, and trial-and-error to construct a flowchart that details how to separate a mixture of sand, iron filings, sodium chloride, and stearic acid. STEM skills are essential for students to acquire in order to be competitive in the ever-changing job market. With this kit, my students will not only gain concrete knowledge about matter, but they will also gain those essential STEM skills needed for their future.
