This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Stephen Shapiro once said, "Too often, we try to fit in with the crowd. We play it safe. But innovation is about taking risks while being true to you. This takes confidence. And it takes the belief that your “style” is what the world needs and wants. Yes, taking this risk may help you stand out. More importantly, it may be the ticket to your success." My students come from low-income households which measure their success by the simple measure of completing and graduating high school. My students are more than just a simple high school diploma. They are highly motivated individuals that are eager to learn, create and innovate new ideas using the technology that is available at their finger tips. I have a mixture of Hispanic and Asian students that look to solve problems that they deal with in a daily basis, as well as problems that others may be facing in other countries.
My Project
Robots are used in auto, medical and manufacturing industries, in a manner of exploration vehicles, and, of course, in many science fiction films. Building and programming a robot is a combination of mechanics, electronics, and problem solving. The series of hands-on activities and projects will introduce these concepts using the Parallax Boe-Bot Robot.
The goal is to get students interested in and excited in the STEM fields as they design, construct, and program an autonomous robot!
With this, the students will also cover Cyber Security First Principles in STEM to learn about digital citizenship, internet safety, security, privacy, cyberbullying, reputation management, and more.
