STEM Comes Alive With Chromebooks and Flexibility!
My students need Chromebooks and flexible seating (wobble chairs and beanbags) to support their special needs in learning math with success.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are all very special to me. They are special because they learn differently than their peers. All my students either have learning disability or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder which requires support or accommodations to make the general education curriculum accessible to them. My school is located in an inner city, low-socio-economic community in California. About 85% of the students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
Despite all the challenges my students face at home and at school, they still come to my resource room with big smile, strong motivation, and super high energy to learn every day.
The super high level of energy actually hinders their ability to stay focused using traditional classroom seating, especially when it comes to learning math. My students like to learn math, but most of them have difficulty staying focused long enough to understand the concept and remember the steps. I use different strategies in my instruction and found that my students love the online math programs such as Zearn and ST Math which catches their attention better than the traditional seat work practice.
My Project
I tried to make learning math fun for my students and incorporate online math programs in my instruction, but often times, the outdated computers don't work with the online programs. Therefore, Chromebooks would be a good alternative to support my students' needs in learning math through use of the online math programs.
However, due to their short attention span, it's very challenging for my students to remain focused on the online math programs while sitting on the traditional, hard, rigid chairs which have no room for them to wiggle.
My project is for my students to use Chromebooks to learn math and use wobble chairs and beanbags to support their needs of short attention spans or ADHD. With the flexible seating, my students' needs to wiggle due to their disabilities will be met; and therefore, they can focus better on learning math using Chromebooks. With the donation of Chromebooks, wobble chairs, and beanbags, my students will find success in learning math and will be on the way to become highly-competitive citizens, ready for the challenges of STEM in the 21st century!
