This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our Title One school received funds last year to purchase amazing laptops for our students. The students would love to learn with sound, however with 30 students in one classroom, the sound is too much. Headphones would help to complete our technology experience.
Our classroom is full to the brim with 30 amazing, bright-eyed second graders. The students come from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
All of them are on free or reduced lunch and many do not have the basic supplies necessary to come to school with. These students do not have the opportunity to work or learn with technology at home. In class, they learn to use technology as a tool for learning and preparing them for a technologically advanced future with 21st century job skills.
My Project
These headphones will be paired with our laptops to allow students to hear videos and directions during their learning. They currently spend 90 minutes a week working online with a program called ST Math, which teaches them logical thinking and mathematical reasoning. They also spend thirty minutes a week working with a program called Code.org, which teaches them coding and logical reasoning. Both programs have audio components the students cannot access without headphones. The headphones will allow students to work completely with these programs in the way they were designed, with sound!
Many low income families do not have access to technology.
Schools have made many advances in bringing in technology for the students to learn from, but it is not yet complete. This project will allow our students to learn from online software in the way it was intended...WITH SOUND!
More than half of students from low‑income households
