My Project

Our school is a small school with almost 90% of students identified as low socio-economic status. They come with very limited supplies and few opportunities for field trips or hands-on experiences. Our students have had little experience to connect their learning to real-world scenarios and even less true technology experience to prepare them for college or an industrial career.

We are devoted to giving our students the most inclusive education we possibly can.

Two years ago, we added a new robotics/STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) elective class so that our students can begin to build an understanding of technology that will aid them in succeeding in today's job market. After being introduced to 3D printing and laser cutting, our students have really taken off. They have quickly learned the basics of our printers and expanded into advanced prints and creations. Students have been busy turning their creations into a robotics store to help cover the cost of supplies for future creations. While helping to cover costs, the store has also taught the students several life lessons. Through our store, students have learned entrepreneurship, quality control, inventory management, and finances. The addition of this cart would simplify the movement of the store and provide students an easier spot to work out of at events.

As an AVID campus (Advancement Via Individual Determination), we teach our students that goal setting is a priority. We want our students to have as many opportunities available to them as possible, whether that be college, trade school, or the military. We have bright and willing students who are excited to learn, and this new course is just one example of how our junior high has committed to increasing our students’ success.
