My Students
The students that I teach are excited and eager to return to school this semester. My school serves high-poverty students. My students are typical middle schoolers in a diverse community. The students range from gifted to special education. The students have hopes, fears, and dreams just like any other adolescent.
My students live in the 21st Century and need to make connections between subjects and use their problem-solving skills.
I like to have rewards for my students while in the STEM Connections class, especially on STEM Team Challenge Thursdays. STEM Team Challenges allow their creativity and curiosity to shine through.
My Project
I teach a STEM class at a middle school that serves high poverty students. The class is new and the first in the school district. At this point, I am building a program and activities for the students. Each Thursday, students participate in a STEM Challenge based on the topic that we have studied on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. On Fridays, the students take an assessment to determine the mastery of the skills and topics presented.
The STEM Challenge Thursdays are a way to engage the students and allow them to showcase their knowledge gained during the week.
My middle school students love to eat and I would like to have edible STEM Challenge Rewards for them that are healthy and tasty. I am requesting individual packs of Rice Krispy Treats and Goldfish Crackers. Having something to reward the winning team with that is delicious and satisfying will be a boost to our class and build excitement about STEM class.
