I teach 7th graders at a high poverty school in the Southeast, and I am the Green School Coordinator. I work with over 100 student volunteers that manage our school's recycling program. The kids do everything from classroom pick-ups, to cafeteria recycling, and emptying bins into the recycling dumpster everyday. They also sort through the recycling for items we can sell for our Trash Hunger Campaign. The Trash Hunger Campaign is our effort to recycle trash, sell it to recyclers, and donate the money we earn to UNICEF and our local food bank. I work with another group of 30 kids through the Science & Energy Team with a similar mission. The Science & Energy Team is a competitive team that works to educate others in the school and community about resource conservation. The Science & Energy Team also hosts recycling drives for the Trash Hunger Campaign. I welcome your support of my students!
