STEM Challenge: Passive Solar Design Comes Alive in Room 28-I!
My students need basic science equipment. In addition to Carolina STEM Challenge Passive Solar Design Kits, we are in need of digital scales and digital stopwatches, poster paper and Science learning toys.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
When learning takes place in a laboratory, where my students get to explore and test their theories, that is a perfect day. Our school is under construction
I have 180 students, many of which are English Language Learners that love to learn!
Hands-on activities are so crucial to developing their language and writing skills. My students are eager to learn, but our resources are limited.
Having scales and timers that are always accessible, will enable my students to do many more hands-on laboratory experiments. Not all labs need to involve expensive equipment, having just a few basics can go a long way in watching their little faces beam with joy whenever it is "Lab Day".
My Project
My goal is not only to expose my students to science in the sixth grade, but to cultivate a curiosity that is ingrained in the fabric of their being.
We are a low-income school, with a high Special Education and English Language Learners population, these Solar Kits will allow them to experience how solar energy is captured and used in homes and businesses.
Hands-on Science is crucial in creating a deep love for science that will last over a student’s lifespan.
Having scales and timers that are always accessible, will enable my students to do many more hands-on laboratory experiments.
