My Students
My 6th grade students are the future scientists of the world. Coming from many different backgrounds and speaking a variety of languages, they apply their prior knowledge and lived experiences to enhance their learning each day.
In my classroom, I strive to create hands-on, culturally relevant lessons that address real-world issues.
By helping to support this cause, you too can contribute to preparing the future scientists of our world!
My Project
My students love building things. For example, earlier this year, they thrived when collaborating with peers to build a roller coaster that could support a marble from start to finish.
My idea is to use these Lego Brick Sets as part of STEM building challenges, such as, “build the tallest structure that will hold a book.” Through the combination of building, trial-and-error, collaboration and competition, my students will practice real-world skills.
The benefit of the Legos is simple: they are re-usable. Unlike our roller coaster materials, which were tossed at the end of the project, the Legos can be used over and over for multiple STEM building challenges.
