My Students
Imagine moving to a new country. You walk into a classroom and you may not have ever had any formal education before. You have never read or written and you have this smiling teacher talking to you in a language you don't understand. These are the students I teach every day.
I teach STEAM and Computer Coding in a Title I school where 85% of my students are English as a New Language Learners.
The children at my school spend more time at school than they do at home. When the school day is over, most of them go to an after school program. Any part of their day that could bring fun and new experiences to them would be welcomed with excitement and enthusiasm. And this is what brought me to DonorsChoose.org!
My Project
My students love STEM learning and would love to read about others in the STEM field. Books on this topic are hard to find in our school, and being a STEM teacher I would love to expose them to this genre of books. I know they would love reading about women computer scientists, Steve Jobs and other inventors.
We internalize what we read, and I want my students to internalize that they too can make a change.
Most of my students do not know about how technology has changed over the years and the people that inspired this change. They need to read about them and learn about them, so that they can be inspired to invent, create and make a change in the world. Please donate to our project so that my students can become STEM readers.
