We are a 2nd-grade classroom from a small town in South Dakota. We are growing and learning in the same small, tight-knit, school community that inspired me to become a teacher. These students are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners. They are mini inspirations to themselves and others around them. They are budding ambassadors, world travelers, philosophers, mathematicians, scientists, writers, entrepreneurs, and teachers. They are our future and I want to give them a great start to their long successful career.
My Project
This second grade classroom is in need of STEM books and tools! We are hoping to add to our classroom library and tools for our MakerSpace.
STEM education is about hands-on learning.
These books and tools will encourage exploration and collaboration. Being hands-on is especially important for kinesthetic learners. With the appropriate materials, students will become engineers. Hands-on learning can also help students retain information. It is so important to work beyond worksheets and bring in as many materials as possible.
Students will experiment through trial and error and grow from their mistakes. My hope is to encourage students to explore the STEM field and learn as much as possible. The more opportunities I can give to the students, the more likely they are to be excited about coming to school each day!
