My Project

In collaboration with our librarian, I am excited to share how she is playing a vital role in supporting STEM education through an innovative and engaging book club. This program not only encourages a love of reading, but also fosters creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on learning through STEM-based challenges.

Each month, students in the book club read a carefully selected STEM-related book—ranging from inspiring biographies of inventors to stories that highlight engineering, science, and technology concepts.

After finishing the book, students participate in mini STEM challenges that are directly connected to the themes or problems explored in their reading.

To bring these activities to life, students use a variety of hands-on materials such as LEGOs, Magna-Tiles, interlocking building blocks, and watercolor pencils. For example, after reading a book about bridges or architecture, students might be challenged to build a model bridge using LEGOs or Magna-Tiles. If the book focuses on animal habitats or ecosystems, they may design and illustrate those environments using watercolor pencils and interlocking blocks. This creative integration of literature and STEM allows students to deepen their comprehension while applying what they’ve learned in an engaging, meaningful way.

By blending literature with hands-on STEM exploration, the librarian is helping students make powerful connections across disciplines and develop essential 21st-century skills. This book club is a shining example of how reading can spark curiosity and inspire students to think like scientists, engineers, and creators.

Thank you for your continued support of programs like these that enrich our students’ educational experiences.
