I teach in a high poverty school. My students are smart, hard-working. They are resourceful! Many of them are responsible for getting themselves up in the morning and getting themselves to school on time.
Since my kids come from low-income families, they do not come to school with school supplies.
I have to supply them with all the things they will need to be successful learners in the classroom. They are a great group of kids. We are also very fortunate to have a classroom therapy dog that the kids adore.
My Project
In a world where kids are obsessed with video games and online games, I would like to encourage students to use their hands and their minds by using STEM bins. STEM stands for Science Technology Engineering and Math. Research shows that not enough students are pursuing careers in these fields. Many students think they will become youtubers and video gamers and are spending too much time in front of a screen.
I want to remove the computer screen in front of students and put STEM toys in front of them instead.
I want students to build and create things and use their imagination. I want to build future engineers and problem solvers. Using these STEM bins will help encourage students in the fields of math, science, technology, and even art.
