Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 2nd grade and my students are diverse from low economic homes. I currently teach a busy group of 20 second grade students. The majority of my children are far below grade level. These children come to school every day with very diverse needs. As their teacher and caregiver, it is my goal to ensure that my students are the most successful that they can be. In my room, we constantly look towards to future by considering ourselves the Penn State Class of 2033. Every little bit that you fund, a child gets closer to that goal.
My Project
Future engineers are built in my classroom! I have always had a strong passion for teaching and engaging kids in STEM learning. I want to continue this love in the upcoming year with STEM bins. These bins will contain items such as pipe cleaners, LEGOs, popsicle sticks, paper cups, and so much more! You name it, a kid can build with it. The STEM bins will include task cards, encouraging the students to design and build a box, a house, a toy, a tower, etc. Each bin will also include reflection sheets and question so our little engineers can think deeply about their creation and push their thinking.
STEM learning is crucial to engage learners who need to be creative and hands on.
With STEM bins, my students will be able to explore careers in science, engineering, art, architecture and more. These bins will give my students a chance to think outside of the box and create something unique.
