My school encompasses all the wonderful things about public education. This year, we will serve Early Childhood Intervention students and pre-K. Our diverse population has one of the highest percentages of students receiving free and reduced-price lunch in our county. For most of our students, this is going to be their first school experience, and we want to make it special both in-person and virtually.
My students make me want to be the best teacher I possibly can be.
Young learners are so inquisitive and see the wonder all around them. I want to build on this natural curiosity. To start the year, I will be teaching remotely, but, hopefully, we will soon be back into the school building.
My Project
Because of the raising COVID numbers, our school system has decide to remain virtual until February. Without improvements in the numbers or a vaccine, we may remain virtual until April. Many of my students do not have materials to build with during STEM. I want to create STEM bins for the students' homes that are filled with materials the students can use to build and explore.
These materials are designed to be used multiple times so the students will be able to design, build, and improve their creations.
Currently, we have been doing a lot of designing. I want my students to be able to turn their two-dimensional drawings into three-dimensional structures.
For my students, their first experience with school is a virtual one. Although learning is always the primary goal, I want my students to have a wonderful experience is STEM. I know my students loved building in the past, and I want to share this opportunity with my virtual learners.
