STEM Bin Supplies to Strengthen Critical Thinking Skills and Creativity!

My students need STEM bin supplies (wood planks, building bricks, pipe cleaners, velcro, jumbo popsicle sticks) and storage containers for our Classroom STEM center.

My Students

My scholars are lively group of 5th graders that live in a rural community in Hawaii. They love to learn new things and collaborate together on projects to share with their school community.

Most of all they enjoy connecting with classrooms around the world.

As their teacher, I hope to provide opportunities for learning for them through project based learning where they will be able to nurture their basic reading/math skills, encourage critical thinking and empower them with the skills necessary to be successful 21st century learners. These scholars amaze me each day when they are focused on what they are learning, when they are engaged in the lessons, and when they are excited about what they will learn about next.

My Project

The materials for this project will be used to supply 12 different STEM bins. These STEM bins will be used used throughout the day and during our afternoon center time. Each bin will contain building materials, such as jumbo popsicle sticks with Velcro, and task cards with an engineering challenge, such as Build a Bridge. Once completed, students complete a companion sheet that requires them to draw and describe what they build and identify certain geometric elements, such as how many intersecting or parallel lines are in your structure? How many angles?

These STEM bins will provide an essential element in our classroom that will challenge all learners to think critically and creatively while having fun!

Having the different materials for building, such as playdough, pipe cleaners, magnet blocks and building bricks really challenge students thinking and push them to come up with solutions to different problems. These STEM bins will have a designated area, STEM Center, where students will can choose to take their bin to the carpet and work with a partner or work independently at their desks. By donating to this project, you will help provide students with practice and purpose for strengthening their critical thinking skills that are critical for 21st century learners.
