This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Building a Maker space that my students can use to help develop their creativity and critical thinking. So much of the future is full of STEM advancements and the youth can benefit from having an area to work and build those skills. My students come from a variety of backgrounds, but the main thing they all have in common is that we are all from a very small rural town. This small rural area prevents most of my students from having some of the broadening experiences that they may have in a larger city. These beginning items to start a maker space for my students is just the start for them!

The ability to learn to problem solve, experience the different areas of engineering, and the whole design process will support the growth and development of the growing minds of my amazing students!

My students enjoy learning science concepts, but they also struggle making the relevant connections to real world. I will often use their interest in sports to help them understand how these concepts we learn in class can apply to their lives everyday. This maker space can bring the concepts and ideas to life and really help them make the connections needed - even may spark interest in other students who were completely unaware they would have the slightest enjoyment in and science field.
