I need $1,413.44 to attend the 8th Annual STEM Forum & Expo hosted by NSTA. This conference will aid me in and out of the classroom as I continue to be a transformational leader.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My classroom is the only classroom at my school devoted to science education at the middle school level. I am passionate about STEM education because I worked as an engineer for over five years. Not many people of color, like me, are in the engineering field.
I believe that the world needs a diverse range of people in STEM to truly make a change.
This lead me to the classroom, where I can inspire young students of color to go into the sciences!
My Project
I would benefit from attending the 8th Annual STEM Forum & Expo (hosted by NSTA) because as a former engineer the conference would offer me teaching strategies and the latest in science content that I don’t know. The wide range of sessions at this National Conference would add tools to my tool belt in how to engage my students in science on a deeper level. I would be able to gain more than just content from attending many different sessions, I would gain access to a new network of science educators. Just reading the session titles makes me want to rewrite my middle school curriculum to better fit my student's needs.
