Traditionally, morning work has served as a transition for students when they first arrive at school. The traditional "stay in your seat" and complete a worksheet doesn't meet the needs of many students and often is stressful or frustrating for students. I want each of my students to be able to use the STEM and Fine Motor Bins to promote hands-on learning experiences.
A soft start to the school day allows students to ease into learning, where they can problem-solve and collaborate with peers, and use their imagination and creativity!
My school receives Title One funding where students are provided free breakfast and lunch. Students come at varying times with breakfast to eat. Having STEM and Fine Motor Bins would eliminate the stress of completing worksheets while trying to eat. It would help build our classroom community and provide opportunities for emotional regulation and socialization with peers.
