Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics are what students in my classroom need to explore the most. One way I can provide this experience is with STEM toys. During science and free choice time, I want my 3rd graders to be able to explore in a safe and comfortable way the ideas of building and the process of developing new skills. Marble maze tracks, tile building sets, and building kits are STEM toys that provide my students with many new skills.

STEM toys encourage children to think creatively, use their imagination, and solve problems.

They are designed to be both fun and educational. As my students use these toys, they will think they will be playing, but actually they will be building new skills to promote higher learning skills. Higher learning skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, and logical reasoning. They will also teach them to learn from failure, to adapt and rethink strategies, think outside the box, and adapt to new situations and problems.

STEM toys encourage teamwork, and to work together to solve problems. In my classroom, it is my goal for students to learn how to collaborate, communicate and compromise with others. These experiences will give them another way to practice and master how to work with each other.

My 3rd graders deserve opportunities to explore the world of STEM. They are excited to learn and explore new experiences, to improve their concentration, and to focus on a particular task. When these special students of mine play with these toys, they will be able to learn to concentrate better, block out distractions, and complete tasks by dedicating their attention to a particular project. This kind of play will really make a difference in their learning.
