STEM Activities to Enhance Our Math and Science Centers!
Help me give my students hands on STEM activities from magnets, kid K'Nex, safety googles, building sets, plant life cycle and even a butterfly growing kit to enhance our Science and Math centers.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We learn better by doing things and trying things. Making mistakes is part of the learning process and should not stop us from keeping trying. One of our math norms is "mistakes are gifts" and it is about taking risks and learning from them. This STEM project will provide endless opportunities for my scholars with the different kits to explore, try new things, make mistakes, learn from them, and make it better and keep trying.
One of the items is a magnet kit, students will have the change to explore how they work and why some items do stick together and others do not.
Other items include Kids K'Nex kits and wooden planks sets that will allow students to build structures, vehicles and much more as they connect the pieces. May not allows turned out as planned, but it is about trying new things, and making it better the next time. It will benefit their fine motor skills, eye-hand coordination, critical thinking, creativity and much more.
Furthermore, our science will be much better with the different life cycle of the plant, chick, and butterfly. Students will be able to put things in order, touch it, and write about it. We currently have plants in our classroom and small tree that we planted this year and I hope students can make connections to our real world and how things grow and change over time. Lastly, I am requesting 2 kits to see butterflies grow in our own classroom. The googles will allow students be and feel like a real scientists as they take turns making observations, collecting data as they watch these amazing animals go from an egg to a butterfly.
