Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In our Ecology course we have multiple labs throughout the year based on populations. Predator-Prey population curves, biogeography and animal dispersal, practicing methods to avoid overfishing are just a few to mention. Currently, we are using the same beans from the grocery store over and over, they manage to get everywhere around the room and just aren't very fun to learn from.

Animal shaped manipulates will make our STEM activities more engaging and fun.

Fish shaped building manipulatives will be used for a mark and recapture lab, where students will understand how scientist estimate populations sizes to avoid overfishing. The animals erasers will be used to learn how scientists can predict the number of animals that disperse to protected areas, based on size and distance from current habitat. The chips will be used to calculate bycatch percentages, to better understand why updating fishing methods help save species.
