I work with a very diverse group of students (TITLE 1 school). They are eager to come to school, happy and want to always try their best. They enjoy their peers in school and use their manors. They speak different languages and enjoy learning from their peers their differences.
The impact that COVID-19 had on the students is as follows: Students have little to no personal interaction with their peers.
They cannot play with STEM activities with another student. They can play side-by-side but together is not 'safe.' I have purchased STEM items for students and they are allowed to play in each buck daily on their own and share verbally what they have done but cannot share materials.
My Project
During this time Kindergarten students are asked to play with STEM materials independently. Students rotate daily through these STEM materials. Many of these items were purchased to foster creativity, expression, scientific thinking and artistic abilities. These activities are better with peers. However, it has been limited with COVID-19 situation and safety issues. These items will help students to stay organized, safe and engaged. This is part of our Kindergarten curriculum and school environment.
The STEM items and containers will help children stay organized and know where all materials are located for their independent learning and expression.
