it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My middle-school students are all at the stage where they are struggling to develop their individual identities. Each of them is trying to figure out who they are and where they "fit" in the world. During this developmental stage, many of them are coming to terms with their gender, sexuality, and race. Most kids have difficult transitions on the road to adulthood, but the students who are non-binary, transgender, or "different from the norm" in some other way, often have even more bumps in the road than cisgender students.

In order to help reduce the anxiety, stress, and isolation that many of my students feel every day, I'd like to get them involved in hobbies, such as putting puzzles together or woodworking. My struggling students need that shot of dopamine from sources other than video games, social media, and other bad habits. The woodworking tools I am requesting will help students build simple machines like levers, pulleys, wedges, screws, wheels and axles, and inclined planes. Even better, this set is intended for children, which should help limit injuries in class. The wooden puzzles and Rubik's Cubes are challenging, but my students need to be challenged to grow. Please help me give my students an outlet for their energy; a way to reduce stress, anxiety, and isolation; and a shot of feel-good hormones to boot!
