Help me give my students 4 Coding Robot kits to explore coding and enhance their creativity.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are learners at a Title I school. Over 85% of the students at our school receive free or reduced-price lunch. I teach Kindergarten, and for many of them, it's their first-ever learning experience. Everything that they do is pretty exciting! There are so many firsts happening each day! I try to do all that I can to make it a positive, hands-on learning experience. Many of my students come from some tough situations, but they still persevere. They just work hard and keep going. Their eagerness to learn is shown in all that they do. They want to do their best.
My students are full of questions and excitement. They like to see how things work and create new projects. They are truly explorers! The coding robots will definitely help us in one of our favorite social studies units, map skills. Students get excited when they get to see real maps, (they were especially excited when I was able to bring in a map of Disney World). When they see "the real thing," it helps them to make connections. When they are able to make a connection and that light bulb comes on, oh the places they go!
The coding robot kits will help my students do exactly what they like to do, create and explore!
How awesome would it be if my students could create their own map and have the robot explore the various places on the map? This would be such an excellent cross-curricular activity! We will create the map, write about the places that the robot went and what he/she did while exploring, discuss the distance the robot traveled from place to place. Oh wow! This will be such an exciting lesson!
