My students are hardworking, young adults who are willing to take on an academic challenge by pursuing an AP class. My students are overwhelmingly sophomores, meaning that they take a college level course, with college level expectations at the young age of 15 years old.
They work incredibly hard at improving their reading, writing and critical thinking skills.
For many students this is their first AP class or accelerated course. I want students to leave my class with a love of history, but more importantly, the ability to critically analyze sources and make informed decisions. My course stresses critical thinking and writing and while it is challenging for many students, in they end they feel a sense of accomplishment for completing the course and a majority of them will also earn scores high enough to qualify them for college credit on the AP test. These students are driven, innovative and hardworking. They are our future leaders and the future is in good hands.
My Project
Bringing technology into the history classroom is extremely important. Students need to learn the critical thinking skill inherent in a history class, but they also need to learn creative ways to express them and they need to be familiar with different application of technology in order to be career ready.
Bringing an iPad into my history class will allow my students to practice using different apps to create, edit, and publish their own informative videos using green screen technology and cutting edge editing software.
Students will enhance their technological skills while learning historical content, giving them real world applications. Technology and arts are too important to be relegated to separate subjects; they must be integrated into the core curriculum.
