Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

​My students are now a combination of English speakers and English language learners that want to become bilingual. They are just beginning to learn to read, write, and count in both languages. My students will be exposed to the material in English and Spanish. Our school is a Title I. I have to lend them books so their parents can read to them at home.

My students are energetic and curious learners.

They are learning to develop their own opinions. They enjoy finding patterns and playing card games that develop their mental math and subitizing skills.

My Project

These STEM materials will help bring out the creative side of my students while they learn at home. Most families do not have the funds, transportation, or access to these supplies. STEM materials will add to my kids' learning experience during distance learning. Students will use these materials and other recyclable things like cardboard boxes to create and build.

STEM activities will encourage my students to think outside the box.

I am hoping to use these STEM materials to excite and inspire my students to follow STEM careers in the future. I also would like to integrate our reading by creating STEM activities that bring the stories to life.

The IF/THEN COLLECTION has inspired my students to see the possibilities for girls to succeed in STEM careers while they cultivate others interests in life. They will be able to see engineers, Olympians, designers and people who look like them as female role models.
