My Students

My classroom is a diverse, inclusive classroom of low-income students aged 3 to 5. For most of my students, this is their first learning experience. All of our students receive complimentary breakfast and lunch at school. We are located in the inner city of Pittsburgh and provide a free comprehensive program that is designed to nurture and support each child as we prepare them to transition to kindergarten.

My students are very interested in learning about letters, math, social studies, engineering, and science, and they enjoy exploring technology.

They are dreamers, thinkers, and questioners and love to discover new things about the world around them. Despite their challenges, they come to school each day ready to work and play with smiles and positive attitudes.

My Project

We are requesting STEM building materials, magnetic blocks, and cubes to help build higher-level thinking skills. This project includes a variety of STEM materials for my early childhood classroom. My students will use the blocks and building kits to explore and experiment in the Block Center. They will practice building, problem-solving, and creating with these things and use collaboration skills, new vocabulary, and social-emotional skills. They can experiment with building and scientific exploration.

Developing a deeper vocabulary, higher-level thinking skills, and providing exposure to different materials is an important part of development.

STEM activities are the perfect way to encourage them to try new things and to explore with friends.

The use of these materials will be very beneficial to all my students. They will allow the children to explore our classroom in new ways. Some of the materials will allow my students to develop much-needed fine motor skills that will assist them with writing later on.

Having these materials available will begin to foster a love of learning that will hopefully follow them for years to come!
