Many of my student's families are still rebuilding after Hurricane Harvey and school is a safe place for many of them. I am a teacher in a district with 55.3% of at risk students, 84.5% of economically disadvantage students, and 49.5% of limited English proficient students, fun hands on opportunities are hard to come by. Because my district is a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.
Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. Scaffolding instruction means adjusting instruction so that students are challenged and able to
develop new skills. Teachers, students, and/or instructional practices and materials can provide this support.
STEAM in early childhood is so important. The greatest gift I can give my students during the early years is a driving curiosity, a belief in their abilities, a thirst for knowledge, and a passion to grow. With these skills in their toolbox, they will be equipped to tackle the challenges of higher education and the real world. No matter where their life journey takes them.
With a focus on STEM and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math), and positive children’s mental health practices, my goal is to foster resilient, healthy minds.
Students engage and apply concepts in a deeper, more thorough way, leading to a greater understanding of the concepts.
STEAM is creative and adaptable, making it accessible to children of all levels of ability. With various ability levels in my classroom they can work together and learn together.
