STEAM Unit on Comparing Humans' and Animals' Survival
My students need art supplies and human body materials to construct an argument that plants and animals have internal and external structures that function to support survival, growth, behavior, and reproduction.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
First thing in the morning my students walk into our classroom, and they must have a smile. I greet them with a fist bump and with a cheerful, "Good Morning!" If a student isn't ready to acknowledge me, he/she gets sent back to the line to reflect on the importance of coming in ready to be challenged.
I teach at V.P.E., a Title I school in Las Vegas where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast, lunch, and supper.
Despite so many hardships, my students are energized to begin learning and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be attend college and or trade school one day.
My Project
With today's testing environments, students need to have background knowledge to be able to explain their thinking in various ways. With the art supplies (watercolors, sketchbooks, and brushes) and hands-on activities (such as the human body model, interactive digital lesson plan, and the field trip collector/magnifier), students will interpret comparisons and be able to pass their SBAC tests.
With these learning opportunities, students will construct an argument that plants and animals have internal and external structures that function to support survival, growth, behavior, and reproduction.
By using these items, students will be able to study internal and external functions of the human body, and compare/contrast the structures of both animals and humans.
