My Students
My students are really special to me for many reasons. One of the most exciting things about this year is that I looped with my students from sixth grade to seventh grade this year. I was able to teach these same students in sixth grade and now in seventh. I have built the most amazing relationships with my students.
I know my students learning style and that learning by doing is essential for them because it is so highly motivating.
Unfortunately, most of the enriching experiences my students encounter are within the school walls because my students live in high poverty situations.
My students deserve to learn in the best way possible and that is by making real world connections!
My Project
My students love being able to connect their learning beyond the four walls of the classroom. When they are engaged in meaningful learning experiences, they are so much more eager to learn. When learning about ecology, my students seem to lose interest in the topic of invasive species.
In order for my students to grasp an understanding of our local invasive species, they will create a news broadcast that will inform our entire community of our invasive species and how they can do their part in helping the local ecosystem.
We currently do not have any way to film, record, or create a news broadcast. I would love to have the technology so that my students can be actively engaged in a real world problem while still learning our standards. Not only will my students be learning all about invasive species, but they will also be able to learn all about broadcasting and the technology that is used to create a broadcast.
