it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This is the 3rd installation of my class's STEAM project material for this year! My students have been actively engaged and enjoying the addition of project based learning through STEAM and STEM activities integrated into our curriculum. Until you get started working on these STEAM and STEM projects though, you don't often know what would be the most beneficial to buy or what the students will request in terms of "construction" materials. The items being requested are ones that the students have asked to have in hand so that they can be even more creative in the designs that they are engineering.
STEAM and STEM projects have made a world of difference in my classroom engagement, and my students now look forward to coming to class - even in middle school!
The twine and craft wire are to be used as a means of securing pieces and parts together, the buttons and wood rounds were suggested as different types of wheels for moving components of their projects, and the clothespins to hang projects from while they dry. My students also requested hole punches, as they have been trying to cut holes with scissors, and this would help them. The mechanical pencils help those who need a finer detail tip for their designs without constant sharpening, and the coffee filters were requested for our painting activities for both texture, and their ability to "filter" for irrigation projects. The pencil cases will allow efficiency for passing out essentials as each student will have a mini "STEAM essentials kit" in their student pouches along with their notebooks for observation.
I am looking forward to adding to our classroom supplies, and excited that the students are also giving suggestions as to what would make their experiences even better.
