Steam: Ladybugs, Butterflies, and Craft Supplies, Oh My!

Help me give my students Fourteen boxes with 24 Crayola Glitter Crayons, five Amazon Basics Wired Computer Mice, privacy partitions, butterfly growing kit, ladybug habitat, 500 daisy flower heads, suncatchers painting kit, and a wood beaded seat.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students will see the mature caterpillars go into a chrysalis for many days. Finally, they will see the live butterfly emerge as the metamorphosis cycle is complete. Students will also keep a daily journal to write about any changes they see each day. When our butterflies are 2 days old, I will take pictures of each student holding the adult butterfly on an orange slice. Students will see up close how a butterfly sips nectar using its proboscis.

I am also requesting a ladybug habitat kit to watch larvae eat, grow, and change into adult hot pink ladybugs!

This is an exciting process to watch larvae go through metamorphosis. Students will watch the larvae eat moist raisins and crawl all over their cage. Students will make a lifecycle diorama about ladybugs which will be on display for Open House.

I am requesting butterfly, bird, and fish suncatchers for students to paint. We also need a few crafting supplies. The beaded car seat is an economical way to get hundreds of beads for a low price. I will cut the car seat, so I can use the beads to make Indian necklaces around Thanksgiving. Students will also use the daisy flower heads to make a 3-d display of flowers with butterflies.

The Crayola glitter crayons will be used on many art projects throughout the year. Students will enjoy using these special crayons to create amazing art.

Finally, I am requesting privacy partitions and wired mice to replace our old ones. We use the privacy partitions during all tests to prevent cheating. A few of our mice have broken and my students need new ones to work on computer programs.
