I am the librarian in a Title 1 school. Honestly, many of our students do not have markers or crayons at home. Often times I give students packs to take home when they tell me they do not have any at home to finish their project. We have to provide markers and colored pencils ourselves. Many of our students love to be creative and emulate illustrator's work. They enjoy drawing and sometimes illustrating covers of books, characters and settings.
STEAM projects in the library are an extension of our book/author lesson and support students further than the read aloud.
Having these tools in the library makes library time even more magical because most classrooms do not have these available for students.
