STEAM and Coding! Getting My Students Excited About Career Possibilities!

My students need coding and STEAM supplies such as an iPad and Osmo kit. I will be providing a lot of supplies myself. However, I need the big things to get started.

My Students

I am a teacher of a fifth grade class in a low income area. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to trying to encourage my students to be find a career or interest. My goal is to introduce students to STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) to inspire them to continue in school. STEAM is an easy way to have students create. I hope that this will make students want to continue to learn and grow in a science based career as they continue their education. My students have many struggles with academics and behavior. But, I believe that implementing STEAM is something that will engage them and it will help them in their academics and classroom behavior.

My Project

I am a teacher in a low income/poverty area. I want to incorporate STEAM and coding in the classroom to encourage students to get excited about STEAM! I will also be teaching about the different professions that use STEAM! I know STEAM is very powerful and it is exactly what my fifth graders need to move them to the next level! As a first year teacher I hope to make a difference. I believe this is difference they need! All the items I have included on my wish list are basic activities that I can use in the classroom during my STEAM time.
