My Students
I have a very diverse group of students that are homeless or come from poverty-stricken homes. Many days it is a struggle for them to get to school on time and have their own supplies that are needed to learn. My priority is to make sure that their health, well-being, and learning needs are taken care of. Although these students experience a lot of trauma, they love school and want to learn. We just need the supplies and resources to help make it happen.
My Project
My students are in desperate need of winter snowpants, coats, hats and gloves for outside play. They also need tennis shoes for gym class and pants, tops, socks, and undergarments in case of accidents during the school day. These items are in great need throughout my entire school. Teachers attempt to find deals at Goodwill, Salvation Army, or rummage sales, but often end up having many of these items taken home and never returned. I would like to start a check-out system for students that need indoor and outdoor clothing. I am hoping that this allows our school to not need to replenish quite so often.
Students need to have access to snowpants, boots, coats, mittens, gym shoes, and extra everyday wear to allow them to play outside at recess, exercise during gym and feel warm and comfortable during the school day.
Keeping warm over the winter months can help prevent colds, flu or more serious health problems. These basic needs that most students take for granted are needed in our school!
