My students need black gloves, socks, scarves, and hats to stay warm in the winter. The items must be black to comply with their JROTC uniform requirements.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students travel from throughout the city, mostly from unsafe, under-served neighborhoods to our Level 1 Plus school. In addition, over 95% of the students receive free and reduced lunch, which means money for new sports equipment is not available at home.
Unfortunately, the neighborhood our school is in is extremely dangerous which hinders our activities before and after school for safety reasons.
Despite the transportation and neighborhood issues, the students are dedicated to the betterment of their school. Students arrive very early, most often when it is still dark and cold out, and leave well after the sun has gone down and the temperature has dropped. Despite having JROTC uniforms, students often lack scarves, hats, gloves and boots needed for Chicago winters.
My Project
The requested socks, gloves, scarves, and hats will be distributed to students who are in temporary living situations, homeless and/or who travel over an hour on public transportation to and from school. Unfortunately many of our students come from homes that cannot provide sufficient cold weather gear.
These students often wait for long periods of time outside with little protection from the strong Chicago winds!
Chicago winters are brutal, with temperatures dipping below zero several times throughout the winter.
Unfortunately our students cannot afford to purchase clothing that complies with their Junior ROTC issued uniforms. This will provide them with the cold-weather accessories every Chicagoan needs.
