This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My first-grade students are excited to be returning to school to learn together this year. They love sharing about their families, their hobbies, and their hopes and dreams. They are silly and playful and anxious to connect with each other after our pandemic year.

First graders are full of enthusiasm for learning, curious about the world around them, and eager to share their observations and stories from their lives.

They love to explore favorite authors in reading, tell stories from their lives in writing, and learn new math and science concepts.

The majority of students in my class come from low-income backgrounds. School is a safe place for them to learn and grow together and to create a supportive community.

My Project

The rainy season is here and many of my students are showing up in the classroom cold and with wet feet. This project will help us to have a few sets of warm dry clothes and socks on hand that kids can change into if they need to. We will also get a supply of reusable cloth masks (which are more comfortable than the disposable masks we usually give out) that I can send home with students to wash and wear again later in the week.

It's hard to focus when you are wet or cold, so this little supply of clothes, socks and masks will help students to feel cozy and warm at school and to be focused and ready to learn.
