Staying In Tune With Each Other

My Students

My students are outstanding individuals and exceptional musicians. Our ensembles have a rich history of success at festivals and competitions. At the end of the school year, I want my musicians to experience increased success with festival outcomes, and our intonation is an area for improvement.

My students are young musicians who live life to the fullest.

They enjoy our southern California coastal climate and are avid surfers, winning athletes, and talented artists. Our school has an environment that fosters creativity, individuality, and collaboration.

My Project

This Disneyland CREATE grant opportunity will provide a class set of 26 tuners for my musicians to practice ear training, and improve their intonation as they play. I envision a tuner on every stand as we tune, warm up, and rehearse our music every day. We are preparing for the Music In The Parks festival and competition hosted by Disney. We hope to present our best possible performance, and rank high in the competition. The tuners will help prepare us for this adjudication. I envision the students with tuners on their stands as they collaborate with their sections on improving musical phrasing, and unity of sound. As they rehearse their music, the tuners will help the musician problem- solve as they learn to make adjustments to their instrument and embouchure to achieve the correct pitch. Playing music is the best form of self-expression that inspires not only the player but the audience listening to them.

This donation will not only improve the quality of our experience in the classroom, but it will create a unique and lasting experience that will continue to challenge my musicians today and in years to come.

As they train their ears, and become better technicians, this training tool will provide the foundation that they need to continue to have life-long success in music. Music challenges students to think creatively as they make decisions in the moment expressing themselves through sound.
