This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Have you ever traveled to a new place and felt different from those around you? I teach 8th grade ESOL students, many of which are new to the country and are learning English as a second language in an English speaking school. They come from diverse backgrounds, some with regular exposure to books and stories, others with very little "outside the classroom" experience. They are as varied in their socioeconomic backgrounds as they are in their cultural and ethnic identities, making for a rich opportunity to learn from one another. For most of the day they are immersed in an English-speaking environment and are doing their best to learn as much English as they can to perform well in all their classes. In my classroom we work to improve their English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.

My Project

By contributing this project, you'll ensure that ALL students are able to participate in activities which are personalized to meet their specific needs. In the ESOL classroom, students' levels of English can be varied and so differentiation is key to meeting each students' needs. Earbuds for all students will enable me to create tiered, flexible groups that allow students to move at their own pace through language and content. In addition to earbuds, if I am able to provide spare chargers for students, We can make sure tablets are always powered and that all students are able to participate in activities each day.
