This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located in the center of a gang infested neighborhood, which is dangerous and often tempting for students who struggle in school. My students are active, energetic, and capable learners; however, many struggle with basic reading, writing, and math.
Turning lessons into innovative opportunities that provide an active, hands-on approach to learning is what my students need!
Many are being raised in single parent households that qualify for free breakfast and lunch. They have a lot of energy and not only enjoy getting out of their seats and participating in active learning, they need it. Creating hands on lessons that allow them to collaborate, visualize, and see how things work is a great way to get those who struggle with academics to become more engaged in critical thinking!
My Project
My students need to be physically active during P.E. so they can get their energy out and be ready to learn! We need jump ropes to help build their stamina so they are ready to run the mile when they get to middle school! We need footballs to help with hand eye coordination and just for fun!
This much needed equipment will help my students build their strength, stamina, and help get their energy out during PE so they are ready to come in and learn!
We will use the jump ropes to help build stamina and heart strength. I've seen children who struggle to walk one lap at the beginning of the year running six or more by the end of the year. Jumping rope to music makes it fun and the kids love it! When the kids have had the chance to be active outside, for instance playing football, they come into class and are more focused.
