Staying Curious With Mystery Science

Help me give my students access to informational videos as well as inquiry based activities/research questions and printables needed to conduct scientific investigations. Also, students will easily access instructions and anchor charts on the flip chart easel.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a group of very active 5th graders. They love to dance, play video games, listen to music, and engage in math and reading games online. I love that my students have grown to respect each other and feel compassion as a class. I encourage my students to be life-long learners and avid readers.

My classroom is a dual language immersion class with a 50/50 model in English and Spanish.

My classroom will have to include both an English and a Spanish library. My students will be reading in both languages equally, but we will need more books in Spanish since it’s the hardest to get our hands-on.

My Project

The Mystery Science classroom membership will allow me to access interactive videos and science explorations focusing on the New Generation Science Standards.

The lessons included in the membership come with stopping points for partnership discussions and collaborations.

It also provides the students with handouts in order to record observations during the investigations. At the end of each lesson, there are extension activities that the students can try on to expand their learning. It allows students to apply learning to their lives or across school subjects.

Most importantly, the developers of Mystery Science take the time to get to know the teacher members through social media and they are open to listen to student science questions in order to create new materials/videos.
