Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a group of diverse, middle school, sixth, seventh, and eighth-graders. We are at a Title l school. Most of my students come from a low socioeconomic background. I strive to have my classroom accessible and equitable, but that becomes a challenge when resources are limited.

My students are current and future scientists who are excited to learn about the world around them through curiosity, observation, data collection, and application.

My students are all eager to learn and make self-discoveries in science. They come to school knowing that it's a safe place where they can create meaningful connections with their peers and teachers. They come with little to no background knowledge of the science content, but they are willing and strive to soak up all the knowledge that is presented to them. My students are wonderful young men and women who are ready to take on the world.

My Project

This project will be used to help organize our classroom. In our class, each period has a portfolio with their writing samples to see how much they have grown in the school year. All of this is currently kept in one crate and we are running out of space. The rolling cart that we are requesting is big enough to hold writing samples for at least 3 class periods and the bottom shelf will hold at least 2 crates for 2 other class periods I have. Students will use this item, which will be stored in the front of our classroom, to pull their portfolio from the cart, update their writing folders, and have access to it at any time. The monitor risers will help us consolidate our technology. Right now, I have a teaching computer on a lab table. Because of the monitor, keyboard, and drawing tablet, there is hardly space for anything else, such as when using my ELMO projector. I would like to organize this space and consolidate the area. Currently, we are organizing the shelves and cabinets in our classroom, the label maker would help us easily find materials and supplies, such as during labs when students need to find beakers or droppers. We use colored duct tape to help organize students' interactive notebooks and are currently running out. The glue sticks we have requested are a way for us to glue tissue boxes on our classroom wall for easy access without taking much space in our room.

We would like to consolidate some areas of our classroom to create an environment conducive to learning.
