This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a diverse group of middle school sixth, seventh, and eighth-graders. We are at a Title l school. Most of my students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. I strive to have my classroom accessible and equitable, but that becomes a challenge when resources are limited.

My students are current and future scientists who are excited to learn about the world around them through curiosity, observation, data collection, and application.

My students are all eager to learn and make self-discoveries in science. They come to school knowing that it's a safe place where they can create meaningful connections with their peers and teachers. They come with little to no background knowledge of the science content, but they are willing and strive to soak up all the knowledge that is presented to them. My students are wonderful young men and women who are ready to take on the world.

My Project

We are requesting highlighters for this project to help students organize their writing. These students have spent an entire year perfecting the scientific writing formula, which is a claim, evidence, and reasoning. The color code system we use in science is also used in their other core classes. We designate green for claim and conclusion, yellow for evidence, and red/pink for reasoning. With these highlighters, students can easily color-code their writing to ensure that they have all parts as it is also good practice for their state testing that is coming up. The magnetic baskets requested are to organize some student supplies and have them accessible in an area they can reach (whiteboard). I would like to put binder clips, our classroom remotes, and pencils in these holders to help organize our classroom. The pencil top erasers are for pencils that are currently missing erasers. While students borrow pencils and share pencils, they sometimes lose the pencils' original erasers and they become almost obsolete as we have very few erasers to loan out. With these pencil top erasers, I can easily remedy that problem. The whistle requested is used to keep students safe. We have a big field that students can roam around during lunch. After lunch, it is difficult to round up these students. This whistle was recommended to me by a fellow teacher who says that is it loud enough to get students' attention and signal them to return to the building after recess.

These materials requested are to help my students finish the year strong.
