My Students

For authentic learning to happen, students must feel inspired. Students must feel like they matter and that they have the resources provided to help them learn and grow. My students are inquisitive, observant, charismatic, enthusiastic, respectful learners who always come to school each day eager to learn more. My students' brains are sponges, taking in all of this new knowledge.

Unfortunately, where they live prevents them from getting all of the necessary resources that they need to truly thrive.

You see, my students live in a low socioeconomic area in Ewa Beach, Hawaii. Our school is a Title I school where approximately 50% of the school population qualifies for free or reduced-price lunch. Any assistance will truly benefit my students and their yearning to be life-long learners.

My Project

Reading is fundamental. Despite this known fact, it tends to be the most difficult area to get students excited about. Reading novels is even more challenging for students, but it is the most rewarding. Because of this, I want to purchase copies of the classic novel The Outsiders.

By donating to this project, you will be helping provide books for my students that will engage them, that will teach them, that will challenge them, and, most importantly, that will inspire them.

A child who reads for 30 minutes each day at their overall reading level for one year will be exposed to over 3 million new vocabulary words.
