My Students

Our school is one of eighteen in a socioeconomically diverse city in Pennsylvania. Our district struggles immensely to provide new materials such as textbooks and trade books. We, as teachers, provide basic classroom materials for our students from our own pockets on a regular basis.

My kids deserve to know that when they are here, they are safe, appreciated, and loved.

We, unintentionally, send a daily message to them that they aren't good enough - good enough for simple things like novels that don't have years' worth of tape keeping them together.

My Project

Unfortunately, our 8th grade students have been using (and taping!) the same copies of "The Outsiders" for decades. Some no longer have covers to reattach. Our inside joke has become, "We spend more time putting the books back together than we do reading them." This is unacceptable, and my students, your kids, deserve much better!

It's time for their focus to remain on the classic, coming-of-age story, and not have the educational process disrupted by their books falling apart in their hands!

Please help our 8th graders receive two new class sets of their favorite novel of the school year.
