Stay Engaged! Fun Logic Games & Puzzles for Math Students
Help me give my students calculators for their Geometry work! I'm also trying to provide fun puzzles, games, and coloring activities for students to do when they finish work, rather than be on their phones.
There is so much research out there showing the adverse effects of social media and cell phones on our youth. Students are addicted to their personal devices and they often resort to accessing them during class, especially if they finish an assignment with some class time remaining. I'm the math department head at my school and plan to share these activities with the other math teachers! The calculator caddies will be used for cell phone holders, the calculators will replace some broken or lost calculators we have so students don't use their phones for calculators. The logic puzzles, games, and coloring wall will be used as activities for students when they finish their work early. These activities can be used to bolster critical thinking skills, practice engaging with their peers socially, and contributing to a class project. My hope is students will learn to access and enjoy non-phone activities, which is better for their mental health and their learning!
