My Students

My students come from very diverse backgrounds and that provides us with great opportunities to learn from one another. We have a predominately African American student population but in more recent years have encountered a rapidly increasing Hispanic and English as a Second Language or English Language Learners (ESL/ELL). Our students have very diverse life experiences that in some ways have set them off course from graduating in the "normal" expected four-year timeline. Nonetheless, our students show resilience in returning to and continuing school on their journey to obtain their high school diploma.

My Project

Research and experience has shown me that people tend to engage and open up more in therapeutic settings when their hands or other senses are occupied. These supplies will help ease the transition of starting and/or engaging in therapeutic services so that students will feel more comfortable with sharing and expressing their thoughts and feelings. Additionally, we know that students have a lot of pent up energy from the time in quarantine. Please help me make my office, as well as additional spaces throughout the school, places of peace, calm, and relaxation for our students to unwind and, if only for a short time, step away from the stress of the many responsibilities of their daily lives.
