This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a first year teacher at a wonderful elementary school in Greeley, Colorado! This year has been going great so far as I am learning and growing each and every day! Being a first year teacher in a low income school, there are many items I would like to provide for my class to help them become successful. My students thrive to become the best individual that they can be and exceed my expectations everyday! In my classroom, we are teammates, friends, and creators. We respect and listen to each other. We set goals and will constantly encourage each other to reach them!

My Project

For this project, I have selected stations to help my students excel in the subjects of reading and writing. Being a low income school, out students struggle immensely in these two subject areas. Each of these stations have been selected based on the Common Core Standards which are heavily focused throughout all curriculum we teach.

For reading, I have selected stations which range from blending to vowel work to enhance these reading skills.

Each day, my students have time to complete independent work which is when thse stations such as Word Work Station, Touch and Read CVC Words, 4-Letter Word Building Puzzles and Reading Match Up Sets will be used in my classroom. Each of these stations will help every student in my classroom when it comes to reading and writing skills. In first grade, this is a very crucial year as the kiddos are learning how to read fluently as well as quickly compute addition and subtraction problems.

For math stations, I have selected many activities such as Math Folder Games, Part-Whole Addition and Subtraction, and Math Match-Up Cards to allow my students to become more fluent in adding and subtracting numbers from 1-20. This is a huge concept for students to learn in first grade as it is something they will be doing every day for the rest of their lives. My students already exceed my expectations when working independently in both reading and math and will benefit greatly from this project.
